Common causes of neck pain

There are many things that can cause a person to have neck pain. Here are a few examples of some of the different things that could cause you to have a painful neck:

Sleeping wrong

Something as simple as sleeping wrong can have you waking up in pain with a neck that won't move the way it usually does. This is why it's important to have a comfortable pillow and if you are sleeping somewhere besides home for the night, make sure you feel comfortable before you fall asleep.

Bad posture

Bad posture can cause your neck to eventually start hurting. You want to make it a point to be aware of your posture and do what you can to improve it. You should also get a work chair that helps you maintain good posture. Also, make sure you don't spend a lot of time hunched over your phone or your computer.

Grinding your teeth

If you grind your teeth, then this can eventually lead to neck pain, plus it will lead to dental issues. You should go to the dentist if you determine you have been grinding your teeth in your sleep, or if you catch yourself doing it when you are awake. There are mouthpieces you can wear that will help prevent you from grinding your teeth.

An injury

There are many ways you can be injured in a way that causes neck pains. You can end up having herniated discs, or you can suffer whiplash. While there are always unavoidable accidents, there are some things you can try to do to prevent them from seriously injuring you. You want to make sure you wear your seatbelt correctly, have a headrest that's at the right height, wear slip-resistant shoes, and follow proper body mechanics when lifting heavy items.

How chiropractors can help

A chiropractor can help alleviate much, if not all, of your neck pain and help relieve other symptoms such as your range of motion, spasms, headaches, and others. The chiropractor will come up with the right care plan and goals for you depending on the issues you are dealing with. They can use warm or cold compresses, ultrasound, e-stim, and hands-on manipulation to help properly align your neck or to help your neck in other ways, depending on the issues you are dealing with.
